Welcome, Fall Y’all!

Fall is one my favorite seasons, and while it is still hot in Texas, I'm glad it is finally here.
The early mornings are more enjoyable with cooler temperatures. I love the smell of crisp air, the color changes from green to orange, the vibrant blue and pink skies at sunrise, the orange and gold at sunset, and the warmth of the sun on my face, minus the skin-melting heat. Warm apple pie days and pumpkin soup nights are coming.
What makes this time of year even more wonderful are two fall holidays that I look forward to, Halloween and Thanksgiving. Halloween in my neighborhood is always a treat! People deck out their houses with some of the coolest, cutest, and scariest decorations that are awesome to look at during the day and sort of creepy at night. I love meeting families and friends who are excited and happy trick or treating together in fun costumes. So every year, I buy bags of candies and taste-test them for quality assurance :)
Last year, I dressed up as a she-devil, my version of course. I wore a headband with horns, an orange t-shirt with a sugar skull design, black jeans, and dark makeup. When the time came to greet trick or treaters, I put on a black leather jacket and a pair of boots, stood in front of my house with a big bowl of candies and braved the chilly night for two hours. It was fun and I look forward to doing the same this year.
Now, I haven’t decided what I’ll be for Halloween this year but I'm hoping the weather will be nice again like last year. As for Thanksgiving, I decided to start my own tradition this time around and cook myself some lamb, wild rice, and a big pot of lentil soup. Not the usual fare? No. But I love Mediterranean food. And as much as I love keeping traditions, I'm also open to change and starting my own.
